With Earth Day just around the corner we thought it the perfect time to partner up with The Plant Shack in Rochester, MN, to host what looks to be our final wreath building workshop of the season. So come celebrate Earth Day with us on Sunday, April 23 as we fill the tables with floral bounty – all grown and dried with love here at Sweet 16 Farm. Together we will play with the varied textures, shapes, and hues of summer as I guide you through the basic techniques of dried floral wreath design.
All supplies are included in the ticket price – so bring a friend, your creative spark, and together we will build something magic you can enjoy for years to come.
Light snacks and beverages will be provided free of charge by our hosts at The Plant Shack, as well as 10% off any purchase of $35 or more (day of workshop only).

On Saturday, April 1, I will be one of several presenters at the Houston County Extension Master Gardener’s 11th Annual Garden Workshop: Gardening in the Driftless. My presentation, Seed to Bouquet: Planning A Cut Flower Garden, will do just as it sounds – taking you behind the scenes at Sweet 16 Flower Farm, and sharing what I have learned about establishing a seasonal cutting garden. Annuals make up the majority of our blooms, so seed selection and succession planting are big components, but there is so much. Other topics I will be covering include:
Tools and infrastructure
Germination techniques
Season extension
Planting calendars
Bouquet recipe: Focal, filler, and foliage
Harvest techniques
Best practices for storage and handling
If you’ve been curious about establishing a cutting garden of your own, this event is for you. My 40-minute presentation runs from 11am-12pm, allowing for plenty of time to answer all your questions.

We are so excited to partner with the Winona Outdoor Collaborative for an Introduction to Horticulture Therapy! Come see the farm and spend some time in the garden. We’ll learn about the various benefits of horticulture therapy and explore this beautiful part of the Driftless region.

Therapeutic horticulture is an ancient practice that focuses on the use of plants and gardening to improve mental and physical health. This can include the growth, care and maintenance of these environments as well as the simple act of spending time in gardens. Spending time with plants intrigues our innate sense of fascination. This ability of plants to capture our attention involuntarily enables us to take a “rest” from more stressful life tasks and provides us with enough space to reflect and restore our attention capacity.
